Rockford, MN (December 9, 2020) — Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH) held a ribbon cutting ceremony at its Howard Lake substation after a five-month project to rebuild and improve the substation located at the intersection of 70th St. and Keats Ave.

The process of rebuilding and expanding the substation began in Mayand was completed in November. Substations such as the Howard Lake substation are used to convert high voltage electricity from power plants into lower voltage levels suitable for distribution to homes and businesses.

“The Howard Lake substation rebuild will help WH bring reliable power in greater quantities to our members,” said Tim Sullivan, WH President and CEO. “During the rebuilding process, members experienced no disruptions to their power supply thanks to the precision work performed safely by our employees and contractors. By expanding and improving substations in our service territory, WH continues to deliver safe, reliable and affordable power to our members.”

The substation underwent expansion in order to better meet the needs of the growing community.
WH invested $1.5 million in the new substation.

Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility that provides power to rural Wright County and western Hennepin County. The cooperative has been a corporate citizen to the area since 1937 and currently serves more than 50,000 electric accounts. It is headquartered in Rockford, Minn.
