The Lake Region Electric Board of Directors has named Joel Janorschke as the cooperative’s new CEO, effective June 16, 2025. Janorschke replaces former CEO Tim Thompson, who resigned in February.

“We’re pleased to announce Joel Janorschke as our incoming CEO,” LREC Board Chair Tom Jennen said. “His years of co-op experience have helped him develop a deep understanding of the current trends and challenges we face, and we’re confident he’ll continue our mission to provide safe, affordable, and reliable power to our members.”

Janorschke currently serves as the CEO of Two Harbors-based Cooperative Light & Power and received his Master’s of Business Administration from the St. Cloud State – Herberger Business School. With over 20+ years in the energy industry including a 4-year tenure as General Manager of Traverse Electric Cooperative, Janorschke is eager to bring a mix of leadership and experience to this next chapter in his career.

“I am truly honored to join Lake Region Electric Cooperative,” Janorschke said. “I look forward to collaborating with the LREC staff and building strong relationships while promoting open communication with our members as we look toward the future.”

Jennen announced the decision to LREC staff the morning of Tuesday, May 6. An interview with Janorschke further introducing him to members is planned  for the June issue of the cooperative’s newsletter and will be posted on their website next month.
