Volunteers added their GreenTouch to Kilen Woods State Park near Lakefield May 4.

Sponsored by Federated Rural Electric in Jackson, 11 volunteers and two park employees helped spruce up Kilen Woods.

“The overnight rain affected turnout, but our hardy volunteers sure made a difference at Kilen Woods State Park,” said Andrea Christoffer, Federated’s marketing & communications manager. “Volunteers picked up litter and downed branches on the trails and campgrounds. We also raked leaves at the amphitheater, pounded rebar back in on the parking spurs from the frost heaves, plus swept out the bathrooms and office.”

“I’d like to thank Federated and all the volunteers who participated in GreenTouch,” added Jason Honkomp from Kilen Woods. “It shows that people care about our natural resources and Kilen Woods State Park. Federated and the volunteers help us get ready for the summer picnics, hiking and camping season, donating nearly 30 hours of work. It was especially helpful this year due to the wet spring weather and the park opens for camping season this coming weekend.”

The volunteers received a free hot dog lunch from Federated. The GreenTouch program is a partnership between Federated, a Touchstone Energy cooperative, and Kilen Woods State Park. Over the last 20 years 422 Federated GreenTouch volunteers have donated more than 1,350 hours.

Touchstone Energy is a co-brand used by cooperatives all over the nation to market what local electric cooperatives stand for: Integrity, Accountability, Community Involvement and Innovation. The state park sponsorship fits well with the Touchstone Energy commitment.

Federated is a Touchstone Energy cooperative serving more than 5,300 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.
