Minnesota Rural Electric Association Hosts Open House for New Headquarters

The Minnesota Rural Electric Association welcomed members, community leaders and partners Tuesday, April 21, for an open house celebrating the association’s new headquarters in Maple Grove.

The new facility will serve as the central hub for MREA’s statewide advocacy, training and member service efforts, supporting electric cooperatives that provide power to more than 1.7 million Minnesotans.

“This building represents a long‑term investment in Minnesota’s electric cooperatives and the people who work on their behalf every day,” said Darrick Moe, president and CEO of MREA. “It gives us a modern, functional space that supports collaboration and positions us well for the work ahead.”

The headquarters was constructed on the same Maple Grove site as MREA’s former building and is powered by Wright‑Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association, a member‑owned electric cooperative and MREA member.

Designed with expanded meeting and event space, the 12,163 square-foot building allows MREA to host more training, board meetings and member gatherings on site rather than renting outside facilities.

“The increased size and flexibility of this building will save cooperative members money over time by allowing more events to be held in‑house and reducing long‑term operating costs,” said Melissa Stachovich, MREA director of finance and administration. “Just as important, the project was completed on time and within budget, which reflects careful planning and responsible stewardship of member resources.”

The project was overseen by MREA’s Board of Directors, which represents electric cooperatives from across the state.

“Our board wanted a facility that reflects cooperative values and supports MREA’s mission well into the future,” said Wes Waller, MREA boar chair. “This building strengthens MREA’s ability to serve electric cooperatives and the communities they power.”

Guests at the open house toured the new facility and connected with staff about the association’s work on behalf of Minnesota’s electric cooperatives.
